This section brings together the processes and procedures underpinning the club's ethos and organisation. It also provides guidance to parents and swimmers on what they can expect of the club, and on what is expected of them in return.

All organisations and individuals have a duty of care to safeguard children when they are participating in their activities. Sutton & Cheam Swimming Club is no exception and the club recognises a duty of care exists for all adults in positions of responsibility in respect of the child members of the club, including coaches, teachers, poolside helpers and club officers.

To assist all clubs to meet their duty of care, Wavepower 2016-2019 identifies the policies and procedures that should be followed to provide proper safeguarding, the actions clubs must take when a concern is identified, and what support is available to all concerned.

All ASA affiliated clubs and organisations that have members under the age of 18 are required to:

  • Adopt in full the ASA child protection principles and procedures set out in Wavepower 2016-2019
  • Act upon the guidance in it
  • Promote Wavepower and make it available to all members, parents, employees and volunteers as required
  • Promote to all members that a safe environment is paramount

The club therefore commits to adopt the following policies and to promote them to all concerned.

Child Protection In Sport (CPSU)

The Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) is a partnership between the NSPCC, Sport England, Sport Northern Ireland and Sport Wales. The Unit was founded in 2001 to work with UK Sports Councils, National Governing Bodies (NGBs), County Sports Partnerships (CSPs) and other organisations to help them minimise the risk of child abuse during sporting activities.
